A well-placed bin can help our trucks move smoothly through neighborhoods, saving time and reducing the chances of missed pickups. On the other hand, bins tucked behind cars, hidden behind snowbanks, or placed too close to obstacles can slow things down or make pickups more difficult.
Ideally, your trash container should be placed near the curb or edge of your driveway where it is easy to see and easy for the truck to reach. Keeping a little space between your bin and nearby objects also helps. Mailboxes, parked vehicles, basketball hoops, and fences can all get in the way if containers are placed too close.
Tote always likes to remind folks about spacing. Leaving a few feet between your container and other bins or objects gives the driver enough room to safely grab and empty the bin without risking damage to property.
Winter weather can make placement even more important. Snow piles, icy patches, and slushy roads can limit where trucks can safely stop. Clearing a small spot for your bin can help ensure your pickup goes smoothly even after a snowstorm.
Consistency helps too. When bins are placed in roughly the same spot each week, drivers know exactly where to look as they move through their route. That helps keep the entire schedule moving efficiently for everyone on the route.
