Springtime in West Virginia sure is nice, but along with those warmer days comes something else… wind. And when the wind starts picking up, things can get a little messy if your trash can isn’t ready for it.
We’ve all seen it before. A gust of wind comes through, lids flip open, and before you know it, trash is blowing down the street like it’s on a mission. Not only does that create a mess for your neighborhood, it can also make pickup a whole lot tougher.
The good news is, this is an easy fix.
The most important thing you can do is make sure your trash can lid is completely closed before pickup day. A closed lid helps keep everything contained, even when the wind tries to stir things up.
It’s also a good idea to avoid overfilling your container. When bags are stacked too high, lids won’t shut properly, and that’s when the wind gets the upper hand. Keeping everything bagged and below the lid line makes a big difference.
If you know a windy day is coming, try placing your bin in a spot that offers a little protection, like next to a mailbox or close to the curb but not out in the open where it can tip easily.
Tote always says, “If the lid’s not closed, the wind’s in charge,” and he’s not wrong.
Taking a few extra seconds to secure your trash can helps keep your property clean, your neighbors happy, and your pickup running smoothly.
