Fireworks Safety: Willy’s Trashy Tip

Whitecap Willie shares a few simple reminders to help your family celebrate safely this Independence Day.

Hey folks, Whitecap Willie here, and Tote’s right beside me like always.

July means backyard cookouts, sparklers, and fireworks lighting up the night sky. While everyone loves celebrating Independence Day, it’s important to remember that fireworks don’t stop being dangerous just because the show is over.

Used fireworks and even duds can still contain heat and chemicals that may cause problems if tossed into the trash too soon.

Before placing fireworks in your trash container, soak them in a bucket of water for at least fifteen minutes. Once they’ve cooled completely, place them inside a plastic bag, tie it securely, and place the sealed bag in your regular trash.

Remember, fireworks never belong in the recycling bin.

It’s also a good idea to keep them away from other flammable materials inside your container whenever possible.

Taking a few extra minutes now helps protect your family, sanitation workers, and your neighborhood.

Tote always says that safety isn’t about slowing down the fun—it’s about making sure everyone gets home safely afterward.

That’s the Whitecap Way.

We’ll see you on pickup day.
